Petroleum Industry Gets FG Boost With Stakeholders' Engagement on Legal Metrology Compliance

A one-day Stakeholders' Sensitization Workshop, organized by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, FMITI was held recently in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The Stakeholders workshop brought together, key industry players, government agencies, and regulatory bodies to discuss best practices in measurement accuracy and compliance.

At the workshop which held over the weekend with the theme, "Enhancing Business Profitability and Customer Patronage through Compliance Applications of Legal Metrology in the Midstream of the Petroleum Industry", the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment reaffirmed its commitment to regulatory compliance and business profitability in the petroleum industry. 

The FMITI emphasised the importance of accurate measurement and compliance with legal metrology standards. This move aims to promote fairness, transparency, and regulatory compliance in the midstream petroleum sector.

According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Amb. Nura Abba Rimi, "Legal metrology ensures fairness in trade, protects consumer interests, and strengthens industry credibility both locally and internationally. This workshop is part of our ongoing commitment to promoting accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance in the midstream petroleum sector."

The workshop provided a platform for collaboration between Weights and Measures officials, business entities, and other regulatory agencies. Discussions focused on enhancing compliance across the petroleum industry's midstream sector. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regulatory enforcement, improving oversight, and fostering a culture of compliance across the industry.

The Ministry pledged continued engagement with industry players through capacity-building programs, policy reforms, and strategic partnerships to ensure that Nigeria's petroleum sector remains transparent, competitive, and globally aligned.
