Uyo-  Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, received a rousing welcome at the Victor Attah International Airport on Wednesday, following his return from a United Nations climate-focused summit in France. However, beyond the colorful reception, the Governor’s remarks signaled a major political shift with national implications.

In a speech before supporters, government officials, and political leaders—including APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo and elder statesman Chief Don Etiebet—Governor Eno declared his administration’s intention to collaborate closely with the APC-led Federal Government, calling it a “strategic imperative for the development of Akwa Ibom.”

“We can no longer afford to stay on the margins of national decision-making,” Eno said. “Our alignment is based on the enlightened interest of our people and the need to attract greater federal support for critical projects.”

He also used the opportunity to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, as well as Senate President Godswill Akpabio for another term, urging political stakeholders to prioritize unity and state development over partisanship.

Governor Eno dismissed criticism from outside the state, particularly Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, stating, “The political future of Akwa Ibom will not be dictated by outsiders.”

Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, and other top officials echoed support for the Governor’s stance, calling it a bold move rooted in pragmatism.
