NIGERIA'S ENVIRONMENT MINISTER HAILS CLUB LAUNCH BY NIGERIAN YOUTHS ......Says There's Bright Future

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has hailed the launch of the Environmental Club and Environment Society, saying it will boost climate resilience and sustainable development among Nigerian youth.

The Minister who made the disclosure in Abuja at the launch of the programme by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu noted that environmental education will empower young Nigerians not only to champion climate action but also drive circular economy solutions.

"The initiative will nurture environmentally conscious citizens from primary schools to tertiary institutions and even NYSC members," the Minister stressed.

He also disclosed that it will provide hands-on experience in tree planting, recycling, eco-business, and climate awareness campaigns, creating a pathway from knowledge to economic empowerment.

Balarabe urged State Governments, Local Government Chairmen, teachers, students, and the youth to embrace and support the programme, assuring that the Ministry will provide full technical and institutional backing for its success nationwide.

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while officially launching the Environment Club and Environment Society at the Presidential Villa, stated that the programme aims to raise a new generation of environmentally conscious and empowered Nigerian youth equipped to tackle climate change, waste management, pollution, and biodiversity loss. 

She added that the nationwide initiative, driven by the "Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)" in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment, will reawaken the consciousness of Nigerian communities to environmental sanitation 

In her vote of thanks, the Director, Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Federal Ministry of Environment, Engr. Bahijjahtu Abubakar commended the First Lady for her passion towards youth empowerment, education and environmental stewardship.

She also lauded the Minister of Environment for his commitment to a healthier and cleaner Nigeria, as well as development partners, educators, and stakeholders who contributed to the event's success. "Your collaboration strengthens our national efforts towards environmental sustainability," she said.

"Please don't be part of the pollution but be part of the solution" the Director added.

The launch marks a significant step in Nigeria’s journey towards environmental sustainability, with the nation’s youth positioned at the forefront of building a cleaner and more resilient future.
