The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emeka Vitalis Obi, on Monday, 10th November, 2025, flagged off the 2025 edition of the Ministry’s Management Games.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Abuja, Dr. Obi underscored the physical, mental, and social benefits of regular sporting activities, charging staff to embrace teamwork, innovation, and a healthy work-life balance as essential drivers of productivity and effective service delivery.
He noted that the Management Games have become a vital platform for staff to unwind, interact, and build stronger relationships across departments, thereby enhancing collaboration and morale within the Ministry.
The Permanent Secretary commended the Ministry’s Sports Club and the organizing team for sustaining the initiative since its maiden edition in 2024. He reaffirmed management’s commitment to promoting staff welfare and supporting innovative programmes that foster unity and excellence in the workplace.

In her remarks, the Director, Human Resources Management, Mrs. Asma’u Shehu Adaji, described the Management Games as an initiative that aligns with the Federal Civil Service Innovation Pillar. She explained that beyond recreation, the Games serve as a unifying platform that encourages creativity, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose among staff.
Mrs. Adaji appreciated the Permanent Secretary and all Directors for their unwavering support towards the Management Games and other welfare-oriented initiatives in the Ministry.

Earlier, the Sports Manager, Mr. Egule Ineukiye Lang, in his address, stated that the Management Games, introduced in 2024, were among the innovations his team initiated upon their assumption of office. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Director, Human Resources Management, and the approval granted by the Permanent Secretary, which made the programme possible.
He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry’s management, staff, and members of the Sports Club for their consistent encouragement and commitment to the success of the annual event.

The 2025 Management Games features a rich line-up of indoor and outdoor sporting activities designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie among staff of the Ministry. Sports such as football, table tennis, volleyball, scrabble, chess, draught and other events will see friendly yet competitive participation across various competing teams.
The competing teams include: Team Honourable Minister of State (Oil), Team Honourable Minister of State (Gas), Team Permanent Secretary, and Team Directors. Each team will compete for medals in the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and fun.
The week-long sporting event is expected to further strengthen interpersonal relationships, foster staff wellness, and deepen the Ministry’s culture of innovation and excellence.
