Karu, Nasarawa State — Bingham University has strengthened its global academic engagement through a partnership with the Centre for Continuing Professional Education, Faculty of Philology, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), to organise a two-day Professional Short Course on Ethical Artificial Intelligence and Digital Pedagogy.

The training, which held at the Faculty of Architecture Auditorium, Bingham University, attracted over 120 participants, including academics, researchers, postgraduate students, and media professionals drawn from within and outside the university community.

Organised under the themes “Implementing Ethical AI in Academic Research and Writing” and “Digital Pedagogy for Higher Education Teachers,” the programme focused on equipping participants with contemporary skills for ethical scholarship, innovative teaching, and sustainable media practice in the digital age.

Declaring the programme open, the Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman said the initiative aligned with the institution’s vision of promoting excellence, innovation, and responsible use of technology in higher education.

This programme demonstrates Bingham University’s commitment to global standards in scholarship and academic integrity,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.

He added that partnerships with international institutions such as RUDN University enhance knowledge exchange and position Bingham University within global academic networks.

In his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Prof. Desmond Okocha, noted that the course was designed to prepare scholars and media professionals for the realities of digital transformation.

“Ethical AI, digital pedagogy, and entrepreneurial journalism are now central to effective teaching, research, and media practice. This training reflects our Faculty’s resolve to remain relevant, innovative, and responsive to global developments,” Prof. Okocha said.

The lead facilitator, Associate Professor Mustapha Mohammed Jamiu of the Faculty of Mass Communication, RUDN University, delivered extensive sessions on ethical AI integration in academic research, digital pedagogy, and innovative teaching strategies for higher education.

A major highlight of the first day was a virtual session by Dr. Rasaq M. Adisa of the University of Ilorin, who spoke on Harnessing AI for Academic Research: Ethical Application for Literature Review and Data Analysis. He demonstrated practical uses of AI-supported research tools, particularly for literature review and data analysis, while emphasising the importance of maintaining academic integrity.

Day Two of the programme shifted focus to media sustainability and innovation, with sessions on entrepreneurial journalism, media business models, and revenue diversification strategies. These discussions exposed participants to practical approaches for adapting journalism practice to the demands of the digital economy.

Participants described the programme as timely and impactful, noting that it enhanced their understanding of ethical AI use, modern pedagogical approaches, and sustainable media entrepreneurship.

Overall, the organisers described the short course as a strategic capacity-building initiative that strengthens scholarship, teaching quality, and media practice in an increasingly technology-driven world.
