Alex O. Dickson Assumes Office as Chairman of Commerce Plaza Tenants Association, Unveils Reform Agenda

Alex O. Dickson has officially assumed office as the Chairman of the Commerce Plaza Tenants Association (CPTA), pledging a new era of inclusive leadership, business protection, and infrastructural development within the plaza.

In his inaugural address, Dickson expressed profound gratitude to members of the association for the confidence reposed in him, describing his emergence as both an honour and a call to service.

“This position is not just a title; it is a commitment to work with you, serve you, protect your interests, and advance the unity and progress already existing within our plaza,” he stated.

The new Chairman appreciated key stakeholders, including members of the Board of Trustees (BOT), the Electoral Committee, and past leaders of the association, for their roles in ensuring a smooth transition. He also acknowledged the support of the broader business community and youth within the city.

Dickson outlined a comprehensive agenda aimed at addressing critical challenges facing businesses in the plaza. Top among his priorities is the protection of members’ business interests, with a commitment to handling petitions fairly and shielding members from undue external pressures.

On infrastructure, he identified water supply and electricity as urgent concerns and assured members of plans to engage relevant partners and management to deliver reliable and sustainable solutions.

“Electricity remains the lifeblood of every business in Nigeria. My administration will work collaboratively to explore realistic solutions for stable power supply,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of enhanced security, promising to strengthen measures to safeguard lives and property within the plaza.

Addressing concerns over service charges, Dickson pledged a thorough review of the existing system to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient management of plaza facilities.

The Chairman further committed to fostering strong relationships with the Board of Directors, management, and other stakeholders, noting that collaboration would be key to achieving lasting progress.

On governance, Dickson promised a transparent and responsive leadership style, including regular engagement with members. He announced that general congress meetings would be held bi-monthly to ensure continuous communication and participation in decision-making.

“We are not here for empty promises. We are here to deliver real results with dedication, transparency, and integrity,” he affirmed.

Dickson called on all members of the association to unite and support the new administration in building a stronger and more prosperous business environment.

In his remarks, the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Reuben Omenefu, appreciated members of the CPTA, the management, the Board of Trustees, tenants, and all stakeholders for their support during his tenure. He wished the new executive committee success as they assume office.

Members of the newly inaugurated executive committee include Alex O. Dickson (Chairman), Olu Oke (Vice Chairman), Friday Odugbo (Secretary), Monday Odeyemi (Treasurer), Chijioke Eze (Public Relations Officer), and Daniel Abu (Provost).

As part of the inauguration ceremony, the CPTA honoured its Board of Trustees Chairman, Alhaji Habib Isah (popularly known as Baba Alaje of Commerce Plaza), for his sacrifices toward the peace and development currently enjoyed within the plaza.

Also, awards were presented to the past leadership of the association for their sacrifices for the market.

The occasion was attended by the plaza’s management, past leaders, key external stakeholders, and well-wishers
