The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have ramped up coordinated efforts to reinforce cybersecurity safeguards following recent concerns impacting segments of CAC’s digital infrastructure.

In a joint response, both agencies confirmed the activation of robust security and assurance protocols aligned with Nigeria’s national cybersecurity framework, aimed at protecting critical systems and preserving service reliability.

NITDA emphasized the urgency for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt proactive and forward-looking cybersecurity measures, in strict adherence to the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021.

As part of this directive, MDAs have been instructed to urgently reassess and strengthen their cybersecurity architecture to counter evolving threats targeting government platforms and sensitive information.

The agency further mandated comprehensive security audits, swift remediation of identified vulnerabilities, and tighter access controls across mission-critical systems.

MDAs are also required to bolster data protection frameworks, ensure reliable backup and disaster recovery mechanisms, and enhance real-time monitoring capabilities to swiftly detect and respond to suspicious activities.

Crucially, institutions must operationalize effective incident response structures, including the timely reporting of breaches to enable coordinated national intervention.

Detailed cybersecurity implementation guidelines have already been issued to MDAs, forming part of broader efforts to deepen resilience across Nigeria’s public sector digital ecosystem.

These measures are designed to strengthen the security posture of government institutions and guarantee the protection of national digital assets in an increasingly complex threat landscape.

NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all government agencies in securing their digital infrastructure and promoting cybersecurity best practices nationwide.
