Julius Berger Rehabilitates Lagos Bridges Amid Structural Concerns

Construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria PLC is executing a major rehabilitation of key Lagos bridges to address years of structural deterioration and improve commuter safety.

The project, awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works in 2023, covers the Third Mainland Bridge, Carter Bridge, Iddo Bridge, and the Iddo Bridge Underpass.

Work on Carter Bridge, focused mainly on underwater and substructure repairs caused by corrosion and tidal impact, has been completed and is currently in the close-out phase.

On the Third Mainland Bridge, repairs to the deck soffit, piers, and underwater pile caps have reached about 80 per cent completion, with the project now in its monitoring phase to ensure long-term stability and durability.

The Iddo Bridge project remains ongoing, with about 30 per cent completion recorded. The rehabilitation involves major reconstruction works, including the replacement of damaged sections with reinforced concrete girders and strengthened structural supports.

At the Iddo Bridge Underpass, reconstruction works have attained 38 per cent completion, featuring reinforced concrete pavement, improved drainage systems, modern street lighting, and utility infrastructure.
