The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has warned Nigerians against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment links and messages circulating on social media, WhatsApp groups and unofficial websites.

The Commission, in a statement signed by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ibraheem Zakariyya, on Friday, urged prospective applicants to verify recruitment information through its official channels before submitting personal details or making payments.

The Commission therefore cautioned members of the public against clicking on unsolicited recruitment links or dealing with individuals claiming to have the power to secure appointments, influence shortlisting or issue employment letters.

The FCSC stressed that recruitment into the Federal Civil Service is a regulated process governed by the Public Service Rules and is not conducted through agents, middlemen or private individuals.

According to the Commission, under Rule 020102(i) of the Public Service Rules, 2021, appointments to positions on Grade Levels 07 to 17 are made as vacancies arise and after due advertisement.

It said such vacancies are required to be advertised in three national newspapers and on the Commission’s official website, with a specified deadline for applications.

The Commission also cited Rule 020206, which requires applicants to meet prescribed eligibility conditions, including relevant qualifications contained in approved Schemes of Service.

It further explained that no officer could be appointed into the Federal Public Service without an authorised establishment and, where applicable, the requisite recruitment waiver from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The FCSC therefore advised applicants to rely only on recruitment portals specifically identified in official announcements and to carefully verify vacancies, qualifications, application procedures and deadlines before applying.

It warned that anyone demanding money for recruitment forms, shortlisting, appointment letters or preferential treatment should be treated with suspicion.

Applicants were also advised to provide accurate information and genuine credentials, retain their application or reference numbers and keep records of confirmation messages and other correspondence generated during official recruitment exercises.

The Commission urged members of the public who are uncertain about any recruitment information to seek clarification directly through its authorised communication channels and designated Help Desk.

“Verify before you trust, read before you apply, and ask before you act,” the Commission advised.
