Omo-Agege accuses Oborevwori of sending thugs to wreck campaign venue

The Deputy Senate President of the Ninth Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has accused Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, of sending thugs to attack his supporters and destroy his campaign venue in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

Omo-Agege made the allegation on Thursday as he commenced his campaign at the National Democratic Congress Wards 1, 2 and 3 in the area.

He alleged that the hoodlums stormed the venue around 5:30am, vandalised campaign materials and attempted to injure his supporters.

“Yesterday, I got a credible report from the governor threatening my life and that of my family members and supporters. Every venue we go, he will create and authorise violent attacks,” he said.

Omo-Agege warned that nobody had the “exclusive monopoly to violence”, insisting that Delta residents had the right to support candidates of their choice.

He appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeyemi, to hold Oborevwori responsible should anything happen to him, his family or supporters.

He also urged the international community, particularly the United States Embassy, to monitor political developments in the state.

However, the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress dismissed the allegation as a “campaign of calumny” against Oborevwori.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party described Omo-Agege’s claims as “reckless, unfounded and politically motivated” and challenged him to provide evidence to security agencies.

The APC said it was “unthinkable” for Oborevwori or the party to be associated with threats against Omo-Agege or his family, accusing the former senator of seeking public sympathy and political relevance.
