TCN Begins Emergency Repair Of Vandalised Ikot Abasi-Eket Power Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has commenced emergency rehabilitation of vandalised Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi-Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line in Akwa Ibom State.

The intervention followed recent acts of vandalism that damaged critical components of the transmission infrastructure, prompting the company to deploy contractors to restore the affected sections.

During an inspection of the rehabilitation works on Friday, September 25, 2026, the Assistant General Manager, AGM, Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, Dr Ubani Raymond, who represented the Regional Manager, Engr. Nasir Bello, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that the project complied strictly with approved engineering specifications.

Raymond said the inspection would also enable the technical team to identify and address any issues requiring immediate attention as the rehabilitation progresses.

He disclosed that substantial progress had already been recorded, noting that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled while their bases had been solidly recast in preparation for reconstruction.

The TCN official appealed to residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and protect critical electricity infrastructure in their communities, warning against activities by criminal elements capable of disrupting power supply.

Also speaking, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for continuous monitoring of the project to ensure compliance with engineering standards and guarantee the quality and durability of the rehabilitation works.

Lucky commended TCN management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the rehabilitation, saying the strategy would help fast-track the restoration of the affected transmission facilities.

He, however, noted that the difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed down the pace of work.

Similarly, the Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far.

He commended the contractors for their commitment and understanding of the urgency attached to completing the rehabilitation works.
