HAPPENING NOW: BUS DRIVERS PROTEST IN KADUNA

Commercial bus drivers in Kaduna state Monday in Kaduna city stormed out in large numbers in protest thereby causing serious traffic gridlock.

The commercial bus drivers in their numbers, compelled other transporters, including non-commercial and private vehicle owners to fix leaves leaves on their windshields in solidarity of their protests.


Commuters were therefore forced to trek several kilometres to their destinations. Workers who were on their way to resume in their respective offices were seen trekking to the city metropolis in their numbers.

NAIJ NEWS ALERT was reliably informed that the protests was against the harassments and intimidation by the Kaduna State Traffic, Environmental and Law Enforcement Agency, KASTELEA.

According to the protesting drivers, they are demanding the immediate removal of the government agency which took over the operations of the Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO's following their disbandment by Governor Ahmed Nasir el-Rufai.

Although, the protest was peaceful, it disrupted activities of workers, traders and market women. Keke operatives were forced to drop their passengers and people were seen looking for alternatives to get to their destinations.

Speaking with one of the market women, she lamented her plight as her goods are perishable items which could easily get spoilt if left in the open.

She called on government and her agencies to find an amicable solution to these faceoff.

The protest began as early as 7:00am.
