ASUU CALLS OFF STRIKE, ORDERS LECTURERS TO RESUME IMMEDIATELY

After four weeks of deliberations between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government, nigerian students and their parents can now breathe a sigh of relief as ASUU has announced a conditional suspension of it nationwide industrial action.

ASUU has directed university lecturers to resume duty from tomorrow, Tuesday in fulfillment of an agreement reached.

According to the Union, the suspension of the strike was announced on Monday evening after a meeting with the government delegation.

Recall that, the strike action by ASUU of an indefinite nationwide strike was allegedly due to the failure of the  Federal Government to fulfill the 2009 agreement made with the union.

President of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, revealed this after its emergency National Executive Council meeting on the 12th of August, 2017.

According to him, during the strike, “there shall be no teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meetings of any kind in any of our branches till government meets the union’s demands”.

The industrial action actually took effect from Aug. 13. (Daily Trust)
