ANAMBRA 2017 ELECTIONS: APGA FLOORS APC; WINS IN ALL 21 LG's

The Anambra 2017 governorsip election has been concluded with INEC declarng the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA candidate, Willie Obiano as winner and to run for another term of four years.

Willie Obiano beat 36 other contestants including the APC candidate, Tony Nwonye and that of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Oseloka Obaze who came second and third respectively as he won in all the 21 Local Governments of the state with a total of about 234,071 votes.



Former Corps Marshal of the FRSC and also one time Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka of United Progressives Party, UPP, came a distant fourth.

Timothy Obumneke, a public affairs analyst and civil rights activist says the election went fine except for sone few hitches which is not unexpeced in our kind of elections in nigeria.

“It was a peaceful process even in the face of threats by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to boycott the election although there were few cases of violence which cannot be ruled out".

"One cannot rule out the fact that the electoral body , INEC had its challenges but then, it did a good job. It is gettng better gradually and by 2019 you are sure of getting it right. Although, some didnt receive voting materials on time but in conclusion the election is fair", Obumneke stated.

“The IPOB threats in all honesty, truly impacted negatively on the turn out of voters as the number of registered  PVC's was about .5m with Obiano capturing half of the total votes cast".
