Gov. Yahaya Bello in Double Registeration Scandal: PDP Youth Calls For His Resignation

People's Democratic Party National Youth Frontiers (PDPNYF) Coordinator, Comrade Austin Usman Okai has said the position of Kogi Governor should be declared vacant by INEC in the interest of democracy for double registration.

A statement issued on behalf of the body in Abuja disclosed that the decision of INEC to sanction the erring staff that colluded with the state governor will be incomplete if the governor is not sanctioned by removal from office and disqualified from holding public office.

Comrade Okai revealed that the continuous occupation of the Kogi Governor seat by Yahaya Bello ‎should be declared illegal as it negates the provision of the electoral act.

‎The Youth leader opined that, "the grievous implication of allowing the Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello to preside over the affairs of the state, being the architect of the whole illegality occasioned by his invitation to Government House, staffers of the Commission to carry out such illegal action". 

"Governor Yahaya Bello who registered in Abuja ‎did not vote in  Kogi as against the provision of INEC, but was undergoing through the process of transfer which was cut short by his serial sharp practices against the electoral law".

"Efforts by the Kogi Governor to cover up the illegal process through denials and mischievous tendencies could see the light of the day as the pictorials of the illegal action had gone viral with INEC setting up a probe panel to investigate the veracity and nitty-gritty of the unathorised exercise", Comrade Okhai stated.  

Comrade Okhai stated that;  "in the alternative, advised INEC to use its constitutional powers to declare the seat vacant and without further delay, commence the process of installing another governor for the state in line with the constitutional provision".

The media blogger warned  INEC on the dangers inherent in its partial decision ‎to sanction it's staffers alone living the principal accuser,kogi governor to go scot free without sanction to serve as deterrent to others.  

He accused INEC of a unilateral decision if they go ahead without recourse to the body's advise, saying it means the application of Nigerian constitution is dual; differently for the poor masses and the rich class.  

Comrade described the decision of the governor to portray anti democratic traits as an unacceptable to Kogians and will not augur well for the thriving democracy in line with the rule of law.
