BREAKING: FOUR FOREIGNERS ABDUCTED; TWO POLICE OFFICERS KILLED IN KADUNA

Two Americans and two Canadians have been reportedly abducted in Kaduna while the two police escorts, attached to them, were killed in the process, after putting up a fierce defense.



Confirming the abduction, the Police Public Relations Officer in charge Kaduna state Police Command, ASP Aliyu Mukhtar, while speaking with NAIJ NEWS ALERT, Kaduna said the expatriates; two Americans and two Canadian were abducted along the Kagarko -Jere road, yesterday night.


According to sources, the four expatriates and their police were said to be returning to Abuja from Kafanchan, in Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state when the unknown armed men struck.

Reports available revealed that the gunmen had laid an ambush for the expatriates but the police escorts put up a brave fight as they engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle but unfortunately, lost their lives while the four foreigners were ferried away to an unknown destination.

Sources however disclosed that the sad incident, which ocurred around 1900hrs Tuesday along the Kagarko-Jere road which is about 40 kilometres to Abuja, the nation's capital.

The route, reported to be notoriously dangerous especially in terms of kidnapping, had also witnessed the kidnapping of two German archeologists in 2017.

Police Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Aliyu however assured that "the Command, through the Commissioner of Police is already on top of the situation as he has detailed the Assistant Commissioner of Police  to lead the Special Anti-Kidnap Squad to ensure the safe rescue of the foreigners", he said.

The entire Kano -Kaduna-Abuja road has become so notorious in recent times that many travellers now chose, especially those who can afford it, fly instead of driving.

The Jere axis has become a hotbed for kidnappers and from available reports , so many lives are reportedly lost.

Dr. Junaid Mohammed, a political analyst and public opinionist in a recent interview, described the route as dangerous for travellers as he lamented the increasing cases of kidnapping in the and called for security to be intensified.

A commercial cab driver, Saidu Suleiman, while corroborating the position of Dr. Muhammed, appealed for a robust patrol of the route as it is becoming more dangerous to operate the route.

"Drivers are becoming scared of traveling nowadays as nobody knows when and where the criminals will strike", Suleiman said.
