FAYEMI'S GUBER ASPIRATIONS SUFFERS SETBACK; BAGS 10YRS BAN FROM POLITICS..... As State Govt Adopts Judicial Panel's Recommendations

Fayemi, who is currently the Minister of Solid Minerals may not find it easy if the State Government's decision is brought to bear.
The Ekiti state Government on Monday, 15th January, banned the former governor of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, from holding public office for a period of ten (10) years.
The decision by the state government followed the receipt of the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry which investigated the handling of the finances of Ekiti state during the tenure of Kayode Fayemi, between October 2010 and October 2014.
The report of the Judicial Panel ordered the former governor to account for the whereabouts of N2.75 billion allocated from the N25 billion Bond obtained by the government for the execution of contract for the construction of an Ultra-Modern market in Ado Ekiti, which was never executed.
Also banned for ten (10) years is a former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Mr. Dapo Kolawole.
As part of the recommemndations of the Panel, both men are to refund various sums of money to the coffers of the Ekiti state government.
The State Executive Council, at an emergency meeting on Monday, accepted and adopted the recommendations of the panel’s White Paper.
Sources in Ekiti state have however, expressed their concerns with the outcome of the government's decision as it is capable of cutting down, the former Governor's chances of contesting or seeking re-election in the forthcoming governorship race.
For the opposition in the state, many say it's a good omen as it will trickle down, the number of old names and give room for other aspirants within the All Progressives Congress, APC which also has the incumbent Deputy National Chairman, South, Segun Oniof the party as an aspirant.
Sources are however of the opinion that Segun Oni's participation in the elections may see him throwing up hurdles for other aspirants by using his office to pave way for his own interests. This, many say, is totally undemocratic, unfair and not in the best interests of the APC.
Olufemi Adegberimgbe, a political analyst in the state says, the opposition in Ekiti state should instead of promoting former governors as aspirants, it should search for a credible person from among the other interested candidates and provide support to such person than creating division within its ranks.
Adegberimgbe noted that, politics in Ekiti state should not be the preserve of these former governors who want to perpetuate themselves in office but room should be given for persons withquality CVs and good track records in business and administration, sound community based relationship with the people to come on board with their vast experience, to lead the state.
Abimbola Oyerinde, an economic expert in his opinion says what the stateneeds now is a new face in the leadershipand governance and not the recycling of persons with tainted records in government.
According to Oyerinde, the state deserves only the best to manage it's affairs especially now that global economic dictates demands for strategic planning and innovative ideas to turn around the fortunes of the state.
