HON EUGENE INOAGHAN |
A true leader is known by the joy and happiness on the
faces of the people”.........Emmanuel Onotevure
His mission; to develop Sapele to a model world class
city that will be filled with endless possibilities through massive youth
employment and human capital development, attraction of global and local
resources, unleashing of excellence in governance, leading to a qualitatively,
productive, robust and thriving economy for Safarians.
The
very famous city of Sapele, headquarters of Sapele Local Government Council in
the oil rich Delta state, has never been this lucky in having a Council
chairman whose genuine love and zeal for the development of the people and city
can be compared with the incumbent, Eugene Okpeh Inoaghan.
A
brief peep into the history of this popular city will reveal its bustling life
far back into the early sixties when it gained recognition as a major
metropolitan city in the Mid-western region of Nigeria with a healthy presence
of small and large scale industries, foreign investors, immigrants and thriving
businesses which made her one of the busiest hubs of business activities of the
region through the transformation and creation of the defunct Bendel state to
the present day Delta state.
Among
the industries in this very popular city are the likes of the Ogorode Power
Station, Seplat Oil, African Timber and Plywood company (AT&P) now defunct,
which at the time of its functioning, was the 2nd largest wood
factory in the world, Eternit (Roofing and ceiling company), Sapele Sea Port,
SeaBoard Group (comprising of Life Flour Mills, Top Feeds, DeltaPac), the
various Rubber companies and numerous other companies that are either facing
strong financial challenges or, have gone under following harsh economic
challenges.
Poor
visionary leadership style of many of the past leaders brought about a down
turn of the fortunes of this once beautiful and serene town and there began the
search for a vibrant, focused and visionary personality with the mindset for
genuine leadership and true love for the people and city.
This
search for the true and passionate leader that will rejuvenate the economic potentials
took time but, in January 8th, of 2018, several years after, the search paid
off with the emergence of a man of great potentialities and drive; a man filled
the zest to do that which has long being yearned after that will bring about
the positive developmental strides that will turn around the fortunes of this
great and industrious city.
That
much sought after gentleman is none other than the incumbent chairman, Sapele
Local Government Council, Chief Eugene Okpeh Inoaghan when he emerged
victorious at the polls.

INOAGHAN RECEIVING HIS CERTIFICATE OF RETURN |
This
victory saw wild jubilation among the residents of Sapele especially in the
Council as they immediately recognized the aura of calm, charm and coolness of
a born leader; a leader filled with the zeal of a change maker on a divine task
to uplift and develop the council.
This
new leader, clearly, is not a blast from the past, but a fresh face with fresh
breath and fresh ideas that embodies fresh hopes for the good people of Sapele.
His vision; to build a world class city with endless possibilities for the good
people of Sapele Local Government Area and has surreptitiously, crept into the
consciousness of Sapele people with a modern brand of leadership that has a
human face and towering presence.
In
his one hundred days in office, the steps adopted and the resultant effects are
already indicative of his capabilities to do that which is right for the
Council, the people and most especially, the town itself.
As
elected Council Chairman, Chief Eugene Inoaghan immediately hit the ground
running as he commenced repairs of roads in the city which impacted negatively
to the free movement of persons and vehicular traffic that had hitherto,
endangered lives.
The
new Council boss began repairs and maintenance of Sapele-Warri Road by Otite
Road junction and Ajogodo, repair of Akintola Road by Chude Lane while also,
ensuring that trucks and Caterpillar machines belonging to the Council which
had long been faulty, received adequate attention so as to face the task ahead.
It
is also very pertinent to state here that, under the exemplary leadership of
the Smart Agenda Governor, Sen. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta state government
commenced the construction of roads such as Adeola road by New Ogorode road,
Market road, Palm Avenue road, Kings street and Crudas road.
Others
include Okirigbagha road, Ogaga road, Akpor lane, Akpoisi road and Omene road.
The
repairs and re-construction of these roads were earmarked to commemorate the
first 100 days of the administration of the amiable Local Government Chairman,
through the influence of Olorogun (Barr.) Kingsley Esiso, State Chairman of the
People's Democratic Party, (PDP).
Meanwhile,
it is important we note that some of the roads mentioned above have been given
a new face lift, while others are still under construction.
Another
display of that readiness to meet with the needs of the people was the speedy
completion of the Sapele Ultra Modern Market under the support of the amiable and
Smart Agenda Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa which had remained partially
completed over the past years.
Traders
at the Sapele main market, including the citizenry, have not stopped to voice
out their appreciation to the new Council boss who has seen and heard their
cries and sufferings over the past years and in just one hundred days, brought
relief and smiles to their faces.
“A
true leader is known by the joy and happiness on the faces of the people”; that
is how many people have responded to questions bordering on their assessment of
Mr. Eugene Okpeh Inoaghan’s One Hundred Days in office.
On
assumption into office, the issue of security in the local government to lives
and properties of the citizenry also received the attention of the Chairman and
this was followed by the swift and timely response to security challenges,
through appropriate interface with security stakeholders.
This
bold and commendable move has made crime and criminality drop to a minimal
level within and outside the jurisdiction of the council and environs.
It
must also be noted that sanitation within the local government area has caught
the attention of the action chairman as virtually all the known refuse dump
sites are receiving adequate and prompt attention to ensure that the hygienic
situation is tackled in order to safeguard against any outbreak of epidemic or
health challenges.
In
his bid to address issues of unemployment, although a national challenge, this
journalist turned politician is seeking for ways and means to provide job
opportunities for youths in his council for about two hundred unemployed
persons as a way of ameliorating the harsh economic situation being faced by
many.
The
incumbent, who is currently a member of the National Association of Chambers of
Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), is the first Deputy
President of the Delta State Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture
(DACCIMA) and was inducted, President of the Sapele Chambers of Commerce,
Industries, Mines and Agriculture (SACCIMA) in February of 2018.
The
Sapele Local Government Chairman, Chief Eugene Okpeh Inoaghan, having served
the Delta state Governor in the capacity of Special Assistant, Special Duties,
holds the traditional title of Eghele of Okpe Kingdom which was conferred on
him by His Royal Majesty, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Major General Felix
Mujakperuo (rtd), Orhue I.
Apart
from his philanthropy, Hon. (Chief) Eugene Okpeh Inoaghan is a God-fearing
Christian who has impacted positively on the lives of the people around him and
it is this virtue that endeared people to support his ambition when he
indicated interest to vie for the office of Chairman of Sapele Local Government
Council.
It
is therefore the belief of many that he will deploy successfully, his business
acumen and contacts, to restore the glory of Sapele for the common good of the
people who are craving for quality leadership that will end the historic run of
bad leadership which had plagued Sapele Local Government Area over the years.
His
mission; to develop Sapele to a model world class city that will be filled with
endless possibilities through massive youth employment and human capital
development, attraction of global and local resources, unleashing of excellence
in governance, leading to a qualitatively, productive, robust and thriving
economy for Safarians.
This,
according to Honourable Eugene Okpeh Inoaghan is achievable through the
development of a template that is premised on global leadership standards, that
will transform our darling Sapele into a modern city that all and sundry will
be proud to say that poverty and backwardness is a thing of the past.
