BREAKING: AVIATION MEDICINE GETS RECOGNITION BY MDCN; Enters "A List" of Postgraduate Qualifications

Mission Accomplished!! For world acclaimed Fellow of Aviation Medicine and Human Factors, Dr. Makanjuola Akindele Owolabi, it is celebration time as the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN has finally included AVIATION MEDICINE in its Category A List of Postgraduate Medical Qualifications registrable as Specialist Fellow Consultant status in Nigeria.


One major reason this announcement is bringing so much joy to West Africa's First Specialist Consultant Fellow on Aviation Medicine is that the MDCN’s first Registration (see pix below) has been issued to Dr. Makanjuola A. Owolabi, MBBS (Ibadan 1976), D. Av. Med (London 1980), MRAeS (1984), FRSM (1985), FAsMA (2012), FIMC (2019), FWACP (Int. Med - Aviation Medicine Nov 2005).

It will be recalled that only recently, Dr. Owolabi who pioneered combined Military and Civil Aviation Medicine practice in Nigeria, was a recipient of an award of  "Most Distinguished Hospital" bestowed on his MENDS SPECIALIST and Aviation Medical Hospital.

Dr. Owolabi, it would be recalled, started this challenging struggle for proper fellowship training and certification of Aviation Medicine as a Category A certification by MDCN since 1982, so as to address the constant menace of medical quackery in the field in Nigeria and indeed West Africa.

Speaking with Naij News Alert in his office, an obviously elated Dr. MAO expressed his appreciation to all those who have contributed in one way or the other to this landmark achievement in Nigeria's aviation and healthcare sectors.

"This is the final professional accomplishment as West Africa’s first Specialist Fellow Consultant Certificate in the postgraduate sub-Specialty of Aviation Medicine, Faculty of Internal Medicine of the West African College of Physicians", he disclosed.

According to this highly recognized specialist in the international circle as it relates to aviation medicine, "this is my life long landmark professional achievement for Nigerian Aviation and Healthcare sectors of her economy", he concluded.
