ALLEGED THREAT TO LIFE: CEFAM Reacts To Walid Jubril's Comment.... Says Atiku's Supporters Abhor Violence

"Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, abhors threats and violence, and so does all his supporters"..... Mazi Dickson Iroegbu

"While not attempting to join issues with the respected elder statesman, we wish to state that as supporters of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, we align with the democratic ideals of our Principal, who is a thorough democrat that does not believe in getting undue advantage over other aspirants for any political office".

Following the alarm raised by the BoT Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Walid Jubril of alleged threats to his life, one of the support groups for the 2019 Presidential candidate, has expressed shock and disbelief over the statement.

In a statement issued and signed by Mazi Dickson Iroegbu, Convener of Celebrities For Atiku Campaign, CEFAM, he expressed concerns over the comments credited to the elder statesman as he described the former nigerian Vice President as a thoroughbred democrat whose supporters are known to be upright and law abiding citizens.

According to Mazi Iroegbu in his press statement, he said: "The attention of Celebrities for Atiku Mandate, CEFAM, has been drawn to a statement credited to His Excellency, Senator Walid Jubril, the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, in which he alleged that unnamed loyalists of His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (GCON), the Wazirin Adamawa, are threatening his life over his comment on the PDP candidate for 2023 Presidential election".

Iroegbu stressed that, "CEFAM, like other millions of Nigerians who believe in the person and leadership of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, received the statement with great shock, disbelief and displeasure, as the position of the PDP BoT Chairman does not represent the philosophy of the supporters of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar".

"While not attempting to join issues with the respected elder statesman, we wish to state that as supporters of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, we align with the democratic ideals of our Principal, who is a thorough democrat that does not believe in getting undue advantage over other aspirants for any political office".

Iroegbu, a prolific movie drector in the nigerian movie industry stated that, "Since his exit from the civil service and his entry into politics, he (Atiku Abubakar) has always subjected himself to every democratic process".

"Recall that, during the second republic he (Atiku) was a member of the defunct Social Democratic Party, where he contested and gallantly lost at the 1992 Presidential primary to Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola".

He pointed out that "In 1998 when the PDP was formed, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was the governorship candidate of PDP, subjected himself to the people of Adamawa state for the office of Governor of the state and emerged victorious in the contest".

"Although he was elevated to the position of Vice President of Nigeria before his inauguration in May 1999, he still held on to his democratic ideals while in office as Vice President of Nigeria between May 1999 and May 2007, and even after leaving office till date", he reminded.

"His emergence as the Presidential candidate of PDP for the 2019 Presidential election at the National Convention of PDP that held in Port Harcourt, October 2018 was through a transparent democratic process".

"In fact, the former Vice President has never been accused of plotting to emerge as sole aspirant for any elective position under any guise; instead, he has been victim of undemocratic practices ever since his political journey".

According to the CEFAM Convener, "the impeccable democratic traits of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar coupled with his leadership acumen, charismatic personality, pan Nigerian disposition, and every other admirable qualities, are the reasons millions of people within and outside Nigeria, are subscribed to his leadership".

"These qualities are also exhibited in millions of his followers, and no supporter or loyalist of the Wazirin Adamawa would want to tow undemocratic path that the former Number Two man in Nigeria does not subscribe to", he stressed.

Dickson Iroegbu pointed out that, "CEFAM strongly believes (and rightly so) that the official announcement of the 2019 Presidential election result does not tally with the field results irrespective of the pronouncement of the highest court in the land, and we are strongly disposed to the candidacy of this amiable leader for the 2023 Presidential election (God sparing our lives)".

"However, we believe in the rules of absolute democratic process, and this ideology is shared by all supporters of Atiku Abubakar across the Federation".

He appealed that instead of making statements that could create division and disharmony within the ranks of the party, "we urge the PDP Board of Trustees Chairman to use his good office to ensure that the party conducts credible primary election that will produce 'a peoples' candidate for the much anticipated 2023 Presidential election when the time comes.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, abhors threats and violence, and so does all his supporters.
