“DEVELOP VALUE FOR EXCELLENCE”…… EHURIAH URGES NIGERIAN WORKERS

"Workers must imbibe time honoured virtues and adoptive skills in consonance with modern work practices and processes in order to help government evolve and promote programmes and policies that will move the country to the next level of socio-economic development, particularly as it affects internal security and citizenship integrity of Nigerians”…. Georgina Ehuriah

….”Develop an attitude of gratitude to God for whatever attainments they had gotten through their career in the service, saying- “with good health and life, there is nothing one cannot achieve”.

Nigerian workers in the Interior Ministry have been urged to remain focused and also, develop personal value for excellence so as to ensure the realization of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration’s policy thrust.

This was the advice of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Georgina Ehuriah, MON, to the workers which is aimed at improving security, revitalizing the economy and entrenching transparency in the conduct of Government business through the fight against corruption.

Barr. Ehuriah made the call today in her office in Abuja when she received the ‘Best Labour Friendly Female Permanent Secretary Award’ presented to her by the Joint Union Leadership of the Ministry.

The Permanent Secretary in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Interior Ministry, disclosed that the present administration was poised towards lifting the service to a world class status and this can only be possible through self-discovery by civil servants.

According to her, “the workers must imbibe time honoured virtues and adoptive skills in consonance with modern work practices and processes in order to help government evolve and promote programmes and policies that will move the country to the next level of socio-economic development, particularly as it affects internal security and citizenship integrity of Nigerians”.

“The civil service is a place for self-development, and therefore, workers must learn to set high targets for themselves through development of self-excellence which is a compulsory hallmark that will stand them out for success in their career”, she stated.

Barr. Ehuriah said further that civil servants in the country must see themselves as agents for the promotion of growth, peace and stability through ensuring effective and efficient service delivery to Nigerians.

Calling on the workers to create an enabling environment for industrial peace, the Permanent Secretary advised them to be focused and shun any form of corrupt practices, which is capable of hindering the realization of the Ministry’s mandate.

She stressed the need for them to involve themselves in the federal public service games to keep fit as well as win accolades for the Ministry through sporting activities.

Ehuriah encouraged staff to develop an attitude of gratitude to God for whatever attainments they had gotten through their career in the service, saying- “with good health and life, there is nothing one cannot achieve”.

She commended the management staff and the Joint Union for their cooperation in the discharge of the Ministry’s mandate and for the honour done her.

“I commend the Directors and the Joint Union for the honour done to me today and pledge to do my best to ensure the provision of the necessary environment that will assist the staff to perform effectively.” She said.

Speaking earlier, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Ayuba Kabir, described the Permanent Secretary as a listening principal and commended her passion for the welfare of staff which had led to the payment of many outstanding benefits since her assumption of office.

He pledged staff continual commitment to duty in order to enable the realization of the Ministry’s mandate.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Joint Union Leadership, Mr. Bassey Ukpenetus said that the award was in recognition of the Permanent Secretary’s commitment to ensuring transparency in the conduct of government business and in the improvement and development of staff through capacity building as well as in the praovision of a conducive working environment, among others.

He assured that the Union will continue to ensure the maintenance of industrial harmony between it and the management of the Ministry in order to provide efficient services to Nigerians.
