COVID-19: NAIG CALLS FOR PROSECUTION AND CLOSURE OF MEDICAL FACILTY IN WARRI

"Prosecute the said Medical Director and other culprits who in one way or the other, have led to exposing a large number of residents of Ekurede Itsekiri to the deadly COVID-19 virus".... NAIG Tells Delta state Government.

Following the death of the second index COVID-19 case in Delta State, a group of stakeholders have come out to demand from the state government, the immediate sealing up of the medical clinic where the victim had sought for treatment.

The group, under the aegis of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG in its statement which was signed by Dede Tsuwa, National Public Relations Officer, called on the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to permanently seal and withdraw the licence of the Medical Director of Gifted Hands Clinic and Maternity, located at #20 Ekurede Itsekiri, opposite St Paul Catholic Church Warri.

According to the group, the demand became necessary following his unprofessional and life risking handling of the patient.  

"We also wish to call on the Delta State Government to prosecute the said Medical Director and other culprits who in one way or the other, has led to exposing a large number of residents of Ekurede Itsekiri to the deadly COVID-19 virus".

"We call on the NCDC and Delta State government to do a thorough contacts tracing and quarantining of all occupants of the said building were the clinic is located".

"We wish to sincerely thank the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council Hon. Michael Tidi (PhD) for his proactive measures in locking down the medical facility this morning".

This action and demand by the NAIG has been supported by other well meaning individuals in the state as there is the strong need to track down all those who have in one way or the other, made contacts with the victim especially staff of the clinic who would also have mixed with other members of the society thereby, increasing the risks of a likely spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, some stakeholders have commended the state government for its proactive handling and combating the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
