MAJEK FASHEK IS DEAD

Nigeria's reggae king and crooner, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly called Majek Fashek, is dead.

Aged 57, Majek Fashek's death was made public by his manager Omenka Uzoma, via the late singer’s official Instagram handle.

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker,” he said.

“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified”.

Born in Benin-City, Edo state, Majek Fashek took Nigeria’s music industry by storm in the 80s.

He is best known for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain.”

He has worked with various artists worldwide, including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Beyoncé.

The reggae star’s last video was uploaded on his Instagram handle a month ago.

In it, Majek, who has been having health challenges over the years. mustered strength to add his voice to the ongoing public awareness campaign by Nigerian celebrities on the need to fight the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.

Majek is survived by children.
