"I trust that the Sonia Unobunjo led Caretaker Committee is prepared to conduct a free, fair and transparent election and it is important for eligible voters and stakeholders to play the game according to the rules.

"I wish the two candidates and their team success as we expect a peaceful election".

An appeal has been made to supporters and eligible voters during the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ elections, Delta State Chapter to go about the accreditation and voting processes in orderly manner, devoid of rancour scheduled to hold today, October 5, 2020.

This was the appeal from Dr. (Barr.) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant on Communications to the Delta State Governor in a statement issued early Tuesday morning in Asaba, the state capital as the NUJ Delta State Chapter prepared to elect new excos to run its affairs.

In the statement, the EAC reiterated the need for Delta NUJ to be a role model and pacesetter in Union electioneering processes.

He therefore called on the supporters of Comrades Mike Ikeogwu and Churchill Oyowe, to exhibit maturity and high sense of humour before, during and after casting their votes to ensure a transparent and credible election.

Oghenesivbe reminded members of the Union of their constitutional roles as watchdogs of society and therefore, cannot afford to set bad example, adding that it will be bad news if journalists who question the outcome of electoral process in Delta State and Nigeria, are found to be committing the same offence for which they accuse politicians.

"I called both Comrades Mike Ikeogwu and Churchill Oyowe this morning to remind them of the need to have a peaceful, transparent and credible election devoid of rancour, and urged them to speak to their supporters to go through the process with good measure of decorum.
