TRAGEDY: BANDITS KILL POLICE DPO, 4 MOPOL OFFICERS AND SCORES IN DEADLY SUNDAY ATTACK IN KEBBI STATE

Concerned Nigerians have continued to express their fears of the presence of a Commander-In-Chief of the nation's Armed Forces, following the recurrent attacks by armed bandits across the country.

In another attack in the early hours of Sunday, as a Divisional Police Officer, DPO and four Mobile Police (MOPOL) operatives were feared killed by bandits in an attack in Dankolo, Sakaba, Makuku, Dokar Kambari and Kurmin Hodo villages of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

According to security sources, two members of the local vigilante outfit, popularly known as 'Yan Sa Kai' and an unspecified number of residents of the villages were also killed.

"The bandits too suffered heavy casualty from our men", one of the sources said.

A resident, Salisu Adamu, said: "Bandits have attacked our villages since around 8:00 a.m. up to these hours. Please we need your prayers".

"They have killed DPO Jimoh Abdullahi, four policemen and two ’Yan sa Kai. Please we need your prayers. They killed seven people in Inana village alone".

"They carted away thousands of cattle from Dankolo, Sakaba, Makuku, Dokar Kambari and Kurmin Hodo villages and many food items".

"They came with more than 100 motorcycles, well-armed started shooting sporadically which prompted the village people to flee for safety in different directions".

The spiralling increase in the number of attacks on villages has caused many to flee their communities and take refuge in other safer communities. 

This situation has promoted many stakeholders to call on the government, especially the President to take up actions that will address the prevailing security challenges as the number of attacks and mortality ratio continues to rise daily.

Mukhtar Salisu, a social critic and activist has slammed the APC led government under the leadership of General Muhammadu Buhari over the rising cases of attacks, saying; "Nigeria is worse off under the leadership of an Army General especially as the cases of banditry attacks continues to rise".

"We are daily inundated with these killings and the numbers are frightening even to us as locals talk less of those in the international Communities".

"It is equally outrageous to hear the president continue in condemning these attacks with nothing meaningful coming out, to address the situation. We are worse off as a people with his leadership style".

"It has become something of an embarrassment when everyday, all we read on the national dailies are reports of attacks on communities with many lives lost".
