OPINION: THE ONGOING KILLINGS AND COLD BLOODED MASSACRE IN PLATEAU STATE IS ALARMING AND DEVASTATING By Zachariah S Diwong

..... Pleads with all aggrieved communities to please calm down, withdraw their wrath and give peace a chance to reign as the government seeks lasting solutions.

It is quiet worrisome to note that there is hardly a week in which villages do not come under attacks in Plateau State. These series of attacks have led to the death of innocent people and the loss of properties, with the Central and northern Plateau as the worst hit. 

Whilst we are yet to recover from the Bokkos killings and the week long attack in Riyom, we were awoken yesterday (17th May, 2023) by the sad news of the Mangu massacre. This gruesome attack that is already spreading fast into villages under the Mangu LGA such as Bwai, Kombun etc.

At this point in time, I wish to call on the State Governor, Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, who is the Chief Security Officer of the State to, as a matter of urgency call a Security Council Meeting aimed at intervening the ongoing killings of innocent people in the State.

I am grieved and devastated by these events that has claimed several lives especially, the youths who are arguably the main work force of their society.

Consequently, this will negatively impact the economic growth and stability of the state.

In addition, I wish to extend my condolences to the bereaved families, it is my earnest prayer that the souls of the deceased rest in perfect peace while also, praying for a speedy recovery to all those who sustained various degrees of injuries.

To this end, I wish to plead with all aggrieved communities to please calm down, withdraw their wrath and give peace a chance to reign as the government seeks lasting solutions to this perpetual evil ravaging our beloved State.
