The Minister of interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has disclosed that "Statistical analysis is part of government policies, programs and projects for good Governance in Nigeria.

The Minister stated that, his knowledge on statistics data analysis helped him in his administration in which he was able to create three passport Centers (Ikoyi center, Festac and Alausa, and Amuwo Odofin) for decongestion and reduction of racketeers in Nigeria. 

He said it is only those who did not want to follow the laws and principles of acquiring passport that landed in the hands of bad people who extorted money from them.

Aregbesola made this known, when  Professional Statiscian Society of Nigeria visited him on the 19th may 2023, in his office Abuja.

The Minister, in a statement issued and signed by Afonja Fatai Ajibola, Deputy Director Press and Public Relations Department of the Interior Ministry, further explained that he  pioneered the establishment of the State Bureau of Statistics, when he was the Governor of Osun state, by appointing the first State Statiscian General. The Minister has been doing fantastically well in the area of Statistical data for good Governance in Nigeria.

He added that, "It is at the Federal level that there is substantial intrest in Statistics. 

Aregbesola expressed his appreciation to liaise with the Professional Statiscian society of Nigeria despite his short term in the office, while also saying that, "the National Assembly had passed into law for the organization to be Chartered Institude of Statisticians in Nigeria, so that they can have elements of law that govern them."

Earlier, the team of Professional Statiscian Society of Nigeria, led by Professor Waheed Yahya, said their organization is a body of Professional Statiscians with responsibility of engaging statistical research that will assist policy makers in government and non-governmental organizations industries at promoting the nation.

He further said that their responsibility is to mentor the younger ones in the field of Statistical Research in the country.

Professor Yahya disclosed that the purpose of the visit to the Minister is to congratulate him on the series of transformation he brought to the Ministry of interior, and also to liaise with the Minister in the area of statistic, because, the Minister is a lover of statistic. He used the idea of statistical data for the decongestion of passport administration by creating more centers in Nigeria.

The leader of the Association said that the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola established the State Bureau of Statistics and appointed the first Statiscian General in Osun State.

Present at the event were the representative of Director PRS Mr. Bello Abdulmojeed and other members of the management of the ministry.
