ALLEGED #80M EXTORTION BY POLICE: RIGHTS ACTIVIST CALLS ON IGP TO SAVE VICTIM'S LIFE ..... Says Victim's Money Yet To Be Refunded.

Human Rights Activist, Comrade Israel Joe today commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun for carrying out an indepth investigation through the IGP Monitoring Team on the eighty million Naira allegedly extorted from a surveillance contractor, Atubi Davison.

The extortion of Davison, according to the Rights Activist, was perpetuated by some Police Officers of the Rivers State Police Command in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID to the reported sum and that the eighty million naira is yet to be refunded with the IGP's Monitoring team report submitted to him (IGP). 

This is contained in a statement signed by Comrade Israel Joe and made available to Our Correspondent.

He said the victim is currently having a serious health challenge and is about seeking for financial assistance from Nigerians due to the excuses being given for the failures of the IGP's approval to refund the money. 

"We have been to Force Headquarters several times, but the Office saddled with the investigation (IGP Monitoring) kept telling us the report is before the IGP for approval and the victim's money would be refunded at such approval."

Comrade Joe noted that he had reminded the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi of the need for the IGP to approve the report. 

According to Joe, "nothing has been done. We hope that the IG looks into the report and gives it uttermost credence."

It would be recalled the IGP commenced investigation into the alleged ₦80million allegedly extorted by the Police following a petition by Comrade Israel, a human Rights Activist based in Delta State. 

Comrade Joe claimed in the petition that the policemen involved in the matter had concluded how they were going to share the money.

According to him, they claimed that they would give the sum of ₦30million to IG Egbetokun, and ₦16million to the Rivers State CP, Polycarp Abonyi, out of the booty.

The petitioner also alleged that "the policemen also collected a gold necklace from Davidson worth ₦4million."
