...... Says Nigerians Must Get Best Standards For Projects.
NIGERIA'S Minister for Works, Engr David Nweze Umahi has reiterated the determination of the Federal Goverment to obtain the best for all Nigerians as it concerns the execution, quality, and best possible standard for all roads contracts been awarded by the government, for the good of the people.
A visibly dissatisfied Umahi expressed his disappointment with the contractor handling the Benin – Warri Road Rehabilitation Section II: Sapele – Imasabor in Delta-Edo axis, Messrs Geld Construction Ltd/Triacter Nigeria Ltd (JV).
The Minister, while on his ongoing tour and inspection of federal government projects, directed that the contractor be issued a notice of cancellation of the project by Monday 11, March 2024.
The Minister, who expressed his disappointment with the Contractor following his shoddy approach to the project, warned that the Federal Goverment would not tolerate such actions going forward and directed that the issuance of the notice of cancellation be given to the contractor noting that, "we much not allow these things to take place any more especially as they (contractors) will not allow such to happen in their own country."
"Today is Friday the 8th day of March and I am giving this 14 days notice of cancellation which would be put into writing. We have held several meetings regarding this but I will not allow it to continue. We have paid you the mobilization in billions of naira and will not give any room for VOP. Nigerians will call Mr President and call the Minister of Works but nobody knows you. Therefore, be rest assured that I will not hesitate to have this contract terminated" The Minister stated in the viral video.
Umahi has remained consistent with monitoring of ongoing road projects across the country with stakeholders commending his leadership style, his approach and understanding of the task including his application of due diligence to the job.
The appointment of Senator David Nweze Umahi as Minister of Works, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is better described putting "a round peg into a round hole."
