SHETTIMA LAUDS PERFORMANCES OF MATAWALLE, TUNJI-OJO, PATE, UMAHI AS CABINET MEMBERS

With the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu clocking One Year in office, a score card of the government especially its cabinet members has become the focus of stakeholders across the country.

For Comrade Yerima Shettima, the National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, leadership position comes with a huge load of enormous responsibilities, dedication, will and strength to deliver on assigned tasks and demand.

Shettima, known for his blunt approach and fearlessness while speaking on national issues and respected for his ability to tell truth to government and its officials, gave an assessment of some of the appointees of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government.

He talks on the need for a rejig of the cabinet for a more effective and result oriented government.

As a concerned stakeholder in Nigeria, the call for a cabinet rejig by President Tinubu has caught my attention. It is no secret that the performance of government officials has a direct impact on the progress and development of the country. Therefore, it is imperative that we closely examine the performances of the ministers in their respective portfolios.

The AYCF National President, Comrade Yerima Shettima lauded some of the  current Ministers as he specifically identified the Honourable Minister of State for Defense; Bello Matawalle, the Minister for Interior Affairs; Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi.

Others are; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Hon. Festus Keyamo and lastly, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Muhammad Pate, as high performers by many Nigerians. 

Shettima, while reacting to the performances of the above Ministers, said each of these Ministers have shown a commitment to implementing policies and programs that have made a positive impact on their respective sectors.

"Matawalle has demonstrated his effectiveness in managing security challenges in the country. Since assuming his role, there has been a noticeable improvement in the security situation, marked by a decrease in violence and enhanced collaboration between security forces and local communities.

"Matawalle's leadership has been instrumental in addressing the various security threats facing the nation. He has implemented strategic measures to combat insurgency, banditry, and other forms of criminal activities. By strengthening the coordination between security agencies and engaging with local communities, 

"Matawalle has been able to disrupt the activities of criminal elements and restore peace and stability in affected regions.

"Moreover, Matawalle's approach has fostered a sense of trust and cooperation between security forces and the civilian population. This has led to better communication, intelligence sharing, and joint efforts in combating security challenges. As a result, the security forces have been able to effectively respond to threats and protect the lives and properties of the citizens." Yerima pointed out.

"He has proven to be a capable and effective leader in handling security challenges in the country. His proactive strategies, collaboration with security forces, and engagement with local communities have contributed to the significant improvement in the security situation. With his continued dedication and commitment, the nation can look forward to a safer and more secure environment for all its citizens." He stated.

Speaking on the performances of the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, the AYCF National President noted that "Prof Ali Pate has taken steps to improve the healthcare system in Nigeria."

"By increasing funding for healthcare facilities, training medical staff, and implementing policies to improve access to healthcare services, the Minister has made a notable difference in the quality of healthcare available to Nigerians.

"One of the key initiatives undertaken by Dr. Pate is the allocation of additional funding towards healthcare facilities. This has enabled hospitals and clinics to upgrade their infrastructure, purchase necessary medical equipment, and ensure a higher standard of care for patients. As a result, Nigerians now have access to better-equipped healthcare facilities that can provide more effective and efficient treatment.

"Dr. Pate has also focused on training medical staff to improve their skills and knowledge. By investing in continuous education and training programs for healthcare professionals, he has ensured that they are equipped to provide high-quality care to patients. This has led to improved patient outcomes and enhanced confidence in the healthcare system among the Nigerian population." He said.

However, the performance of the Finance Minister has been a subject of debate. While some believe that the current Finance Minister has done a commendable job in managing the country's finances, others are of the opinion that there is room for improvement. The Finance Minister plays a crucial role in shaping the economic policy of the country, and it is important that the individual occupying this position is competent and capable.

Calls for the reinstatement of Dr. Betta Edu as the Finance Minister is completely unreasonable and unrealistic. In just a few months of her becoming finance minister, Edu was implicated in a multi-billion naira embezzlement scandal and is still on trial. It would be highly inappropriate to reinstate her to such a crucial position before the conclusion of the legal proceedings. The allegations against Edu raise serious concerns about her integrity and ability to handle public funds responsibly. As such, it is essential that the legal process takes its course before any decisions are made regarding her future in public office. The call for her reinstatement disregards the gravity of the accusations against her and undermines the principles of transparency and accountability in government. It is imperative that those entrusted with managing public finances are held to the highest standards of ethics and accountability. Until Dr. Betta Edu can clear her name of the allegations against her, it would be irresponsible to even consider reinstating her as Finance Minister.
