MINISTER CALLS FOR MORE COLLABORATION IN DEVELOPING SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE ..... Says It's The Way Forward

Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh and Senator Ned Nwoko, the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Sports who paid the Minister a courtesy visit.

"The Ministry, in its effort to take sports to the grassroots, has opened sports zonal offices in the six geo-political zones of the nation, which makes it easier for the citizens to showcase their talents early for their good and the nation at large." John Enoh.

Nigeria's Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has called for more collaboration with stakeholders and sports lovers in order to make the necessary improvements that will bring about needed desired changes in the sector.

He reiterated that for these changes to be effected, the sector requires additional funding and sports infrastructure development which has remained a huge challenge. 

Senator Enoh stated this when the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Sports, Sen. Ned Nwoko paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, recently.

The Minister noted that the main issue that needs attention in the ministry is funding and sports infrastructural development. This request he said has already been submitted to the National Assembly for attention.

Enoh described the visit as one that comes at the right time and appreciated  Sen. Nwoko for his initiatives, passion and interest in sports. He added that the senator built the first Sports University in the nation.

The Minister explained that the Ministry in its effort to take sports to the grassroots, has opened sports zonal offices in the six geo-political zones of the nation, which makes it easier for the citizens to showcase their talents early for their good and the nation at large.

Enoh expressed gratitude to the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the cooperation of the National Assembly on the Anti-doping bill that was approved. A bill he said, seeks to establish the National Anti-Doping Centre to combat doping in sports, in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code that has been hanging for the past 20 years. 

Addressing the Minister earlier, the Chairman Senate Committee on Sports, Sen. Ned Nwoko pledged the  Committee’s commitment to support the Ministry towards its desire to the development of sports in the nation. He suggested the establishment of Sports Centres across the cities and local areas in the country where sporting activities will be taught based on international best practices and standards.

He commended the leadership of the Ministry on their successes and achievements in the industry.
