Juju Priestess, 11 Others Abducted in Delta state

A gang of armed men, on Saturday reportedly abducted a juju priestess in Egbo Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. 

The Chief priestess simply identified as Mrs. Kuku was abducted alongside five of her followers while performing some traditional rites and sacrifices to her river goddess under the bridge between Egbo and Ekrokpe Communities, when the gunmen struck.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 4pm.

According to the reports from the community, it was learnt that, prior to the abduction of the priestess, five other persons had also been kidnapped by the gunmen who came in through the bush and made good their escape with the abducted victims through the bush. 

Reacting to the incident, Human Rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe called on the Governor of Delta state, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori to adopt measures that will provide better security for the people.

In a statement released in Warri, Israel Joe stated that, "The people perpetuating this act are more of indigenous people/informants."

While noting that it is difficult to get security in the communities, Comrade Joe stressed that, "unless the Governor, himself is committed to the security of these areas, it is going to be extremely difficult."

Comrade Joe said; "These gunmen just come through the bushes, kídnap and escape through the same bushes. They don't need to drive, so it is very easy for them. They can't be afraid of Police or anything since they don't need a car or drive through any road."

According to Comrade Joe, "From Otokutu to Egbo through Ekrokpe to Aragba through ECN to Uvwiamuge, Ughelli the bush/forest is big like Sambisa forest.

"I only made a post and at once they began telling me to remove my mouth from their mata say e nor concern me. 

"The Vice President of Egbo was crying some days ago on phone that the president has ran away and he is also looking for money to pack out of Egbo.

"A very fast developing town capable of turning landlords to tenants. A lot of landlords are either packing out of Egbo to rent houses somewhere or are selling out their houses on auction. What a life?"

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe was yet to pick calls as well as reply a text message sent to him for confirmation of the report.
