ARREST OF AJAERO: FG MOVING TO GAG DISSENTING VOICES.... Says Israel Joe

Comrade Israel Joe

"In a serious country, we would all have been on the streets calling for reforms of policies and reverting fuel prices." Comrade Israel Joe

The arrest of Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has continued to generate reactions from nigerians with human rights Activists calling for his release in order to forestall any further strikes that would inflict more pains on the already over stretched patience of nigerians.

Lending voice to the call on government is Comrade Israel Joe, a Niger Delta based Human Rights Activist, social rights crusader and public commentator as he warned that the Nigerian government is doing everything possible to gag the throat of dissenting voices of conscience.

"This is another move to forestall any mass action by the Labour leader." Comrade Israel Joe stated while responding to questions by our Political Editor.

He however opened that, "the NLC has been playing a carrot and stick approach towards a government that is supposedly the master of protests and strikes.

"We have a mafia at the helms of affairs, and we had longed expected NLC to be firm and tactical in their negotiations but they seemed not to understand the body language of a totalitarian democracy like we have now.

"We know he will be released, but they would have normalised the hardship within days of fuel increment. In a serious country, we would all have been on the streets calling for reforms of policies and reverting fuel prices." He said.

"All the monies saved from the subsidies and given to state governors have no direct impact on the lives of the people. It is then better for the FG to put our refineries to work and subsidised directly because the suffering and untold hardship are unimaginable right now." Israel Joe stated.
