For Transformative Innovations, Foster Creativity, Minister Opens Maiden Panegyric Competition

"Integrating Arts into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) will foster creativity, and turn discoveries into transformative innovations." Education Minister.

As an avenue to inspire education in the country, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, on Wednesday declared open the maiden edition of the Panegyric Competition.

According to the Minister, integrating Arts into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) will foster creativity, and turn discoveries into transformative innovations.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Dr. Ismaila Adiatu, the Minister noted that the competition will promote Nigeria's cultural values, foster national unity, peace, creativity, eloquence, and healthy competition among Nigerian students. 

According to him, "As we honour the art of praise, let us also celebrate the power of education in shaping the future of our nation.

"In the 21st century, the world thrives on innovation and progress, driven by the pillars of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) which extends to Medicine. 

"These disciplines are the heartbeat of modern education, equipping our youths with the skills to tackle global challenges, from climate change to health crises.

"Integrating Arts Into STEAM fosters creativity, turning discoveries Into transformative innovations. However, the Arts in STEAM has not been given much attention, hence the needs to organize the panegyric competition as a way of exposing youths to the beauty of Arts."

Commending the organizers of this event for their hard work and dedication, he appreciated the participation of all the secondary schools across the country. 

"Your enthusiasm and talent are testament to the bright future of our nation. As you express the beauty of languages today, I urge you all to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and mutual respect. 

"Also, remember the fusion of knowledge and creativity reflects the power to change the world. Let this competition inspire you to embrace education as the key to a brighter future." he stated  

On her part, the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, said the competition is not only to celebrate eloquence and the art of rhetorics but also to foster a culture of scientific inquiry and technological advancement with a "shared vision of Innovation, critical thinking, and inspired expression among our youth - a commitment deeply rooted in our national vision for progress. This competition is a unique platform where passion for words meets the power of ideas, and I am thrilled to witness such a dynamic convergence."

As technology and science continue to shape the future, the Minister noted that the ability to communicate with clarity, conviction, and respect for audience is more crucial now than ever. 

"We are here not only to recognize those who excel in their use of mother tongue, but to support the growth of young voices that will soon carry forward the torch of culture, tradition, discovery and progress.

"Your words today have the power to inspire, to persuade, and to bring light to new perspectives. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and creativity represent the future of Nigeria - a future rich in promise and propelled by the energy and intellect of your generation.

In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sanni Gwarzo, noted that education is the cornerstone of progress in any society. 

He said that the arts competition is important in driving national heritage and social change. 

Nurturing skills, he noted, is also very fundamental to success in any endeavor. 

Commending the students for their courage, the Permanent Secretary urged them to work hard and not lose sight of creativity effort.

The competition is among students from various secondary schools in the country.
