NO MORE OPEN GRAZING OF ANIMALS WITHIN FCT...... Minister of Livestock Development Ministry ..... Says Directive Will Be Enforced To The Letter

Nigeria's Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to address the roaming of animals within the federal capital territory following the take off of its pilot scheme for designated grazing reserves.

Maiha stated this on Monday at the 2025 Media Retreat which held in Kaduna, said the directive to remove grazing animals from the streets in the city centre, would be enforced to the letter.

Addressing participants, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, whose appointment to head the Livestock Development Ministry, is  described as one of the best appointments by President Tinubu. He reiterated the commitment of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to ensure that sustainable peace across the country remains non-negotiable, as the country can no longer afford to lose lives to recurring farmer-herder clashes.

A committed and passionate Maiha revealed that the Ministry of Livestock Development remains committed to working closely with security agencies to ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative nationwide.

“Just last Friday, we had a deep engagement with the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Abuja, chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, which was our first test case.

“All the animals currently roaming the city centre in Abuja will be relocated to grazing reserves and we mean it. We are going to do it. It is going to happen.

“We need peace, and we must give ourselves peace. It doesn’t fall from the sky. I believe that through collaborative and sensitive communication, and by reporting constructively with deeper investigation, we can achieve lasting solutions,” he said.

Giving highlights of the level of progress achieved by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development since its creation by President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, the well grounded Idi Mukhtar Maiha disclosed that states across the country have begun creating Livestock Development Ministries with the numbers growing significantly.

“Exactly one year ago, only three states, namely: Adamawa, Imo, and Niger had Ministries of Livestock Development. Today, 16 state governments have either full ministries or agencies focused on livestock. That alone tells a compelling story of growth in the sector,” he said.
