The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has assured the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) to develop a livestock digital public infrastructure aimed at enhancing and promoting the livestock sector.
Speaking when a delegation from the NADF paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, the Minister emphasised the need to build a robust digital platform that will project Nigeria’s livestock industry to both local and international audiences.
“We need to develop this infrastructure and put it in the public domain so that our customers, local, regional, and international will know who we are,” Maiha stated.
He explained further that the initiative will provide a comprehensive overview of the livestock sector, including major stakeholders, ongoing programmes, compliance requirements, and operational guidelines.
“We don’t have to reinvent the wheel. It’s no longer about moving around with sticks and animals; we have over 815 livestock markets across the country that need to be digitally mapped,” he added.
The Minister also noted that the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development is committed to driving digital transformation to ensure that Nigerians can access information about the Ministry’s activities and programmes conveniently.
He also highlighted other areas requiring support, including the development of a customized livestock transportation system, as well as capacity-building initiatives for women and youth.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund, Mohammed A. Ibrahim, said the visit was to explore avenues of collaboration, noting that livestock development remains a key component of the Fund’s mandate.
“We are here to brainstorm and identify ways our agency can partner with the Ministry to achieve its goals.
"Digitization within the agricultural sector is critical in today’s world, and we are ready to support this initiative,” Ibrahim affirmed.
