Nigeria, Indonesia Scale Up Livestock Technology Exchange

The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, on Friday, 5th December 2025, received the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Bambang Suharto, who led a five-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja. 

The engagement advanced ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation in livestock development, capacity building, and technology transfer.

Welcoming the delegation, the Minister underscored the critical importance of food security to national stability and commended Indonesia’s steady support to Nigeria’s livestock sector. He cited the successful artificial insemination project in Sokoto and Kebbi States, where 1,000 doses of semen donated by the Indonesian Government have achieved a 70 percent success rate with 20 calves delivered.

Mukhtar described the initiative as a practical example of the value of technology exchange and affirmed Nigeria’s willingness to expand such interventions. He also expressed readiness to learn from Indonesia’s advancements in livestock innovation to strengthen national productivity.

He further requested strengthened collaboration in breeding centre development, pasture production, animal health and disease control systems, and certification processes. He expressed optimism that more states will adopt the artificial insemination model to improve genetics, productivity, and profitability across livestock value chains.

In response, Ambassador Suharto praised the Minister’s leadership and reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to scaling up technical assistance. 

He announced that five Nigerian professionals from the Ministry are scheduled to depart for Indonesia next week for capacity building, another milestone in the evolving partnership.
