FG launches key stretch of Akwanga–Maiduguri dual carriageway, hails Gombe transformation

The Federal Government on Thursday, June 4, 2026 flagged off the Gombe–Biu Super Highway, a major stretch of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Dualization Project, with the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, declaring that Nigeria’s security challenges “will be defeated under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Speaking at the ceremony in Gombe State, Umahi said the project is proof of the President’s commitment to infrastructure and national unity. He warned against politicizing security issues, expressing confidence that the Tinubu administration will overcome them.

“I’m very proud to boldly say that Gombe is an APC state. I’m very proud to have...” Umahi stated at the flag-off.

The Minister described the dualization as another demonstration of the administration’s resolve to link the North-Central to the North-East through modern road infrastructure. He also commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for the transformation of Gombe State.

The Gombe–Biu Super Highway forms a critical segment of the larger Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri corridor, designed to boost trade, ease movement, and strengthen integration across the region.

With the flag-off, the Federal Government signaled accelerated work on a project expected to cut travel time, reduce accidents, and improve economic activity along one of Nigeria’s most strategic highways.
