Umahi Showcases Tinubu’s Road Projects in Ebonyi, Southeast .... To Declare Support Monday

The Southeast has moved from the margins to the center of Nigeria’s infrastructure plan, Minister of Works Sen. Engr. David Umahi has declared, as he showcased President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing road projects in Ebonyi State and announced the region will publicly demonstrate appreciation on Monday.

Umahi, who led a federal delegation headed by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to inspect strategic federal road projects across Ebonyi, described the tour as evidence of “unprecedented infrastructure transformation” under Tinubu.

At the Calabar-Abuja project site, Umahi highlighted a major flyover under construction along the Trans-Sahara Super Highway. He said the structure is sited at a critical bend to “resolve conflict at this point” and ease traffic on what will become a major trade route linking Nigeria to Cameroon and neighboring states.

He confirmed the 18km link road from the corridor to Abakaliki city centre is captured in the 2026 budget. “The Federal Government will undertake the connection to the city centre,” Umahi stated, adding that work will not stop despite funding delays.

Speaking during the inspection, Umahi said the Southeast remains “deeply grateful” to Tinubu for delivering visible federal projects. 

“This is the tangible evidence of inclusion, fairness and development that we have always asked for,” he said. “This is just the beginning. You will see remarkable projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Southeast.”

The Minister announced that Ebonyi State, under the Governor’s leadership, will on Monday stage a public demonstration of appreciation for Tinubu’s interventions in the zone.

“The people of the Southeast are very appreciative of what the President is doing. By Monday, we will demonstrate this appreciation when we adopt the President as our sole candidate and, of course, the Governor,” Umahi declared.

He added: “Let it be known that Ebonyi State is not obedient because we want to catch up with the rest of the country, and we will never be obedient. What happened before was an accident of history. It will not repeat itself.”
