The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) has announced plans to intensify staff capacity-building programmes as part of efforts to boost productivity, strengthen institutional efficiency, and improve service delivery.

Acting Registrar of the Council, Dr. Fadipe Oladotun, disclosed this at the close of a three-day training on Public Procurement Processes and Procedures for management staff, assuring employees that more professional development opportunities would be introduced to equip them with the skills needed to enhance performance.

"You will get more training to enhance productivity," he said, stressing that continuous learning remains critical to building a professional workforce capable of delivering on the Council's regulatory mandate.

The training focused on strengthening procurement processes and compliance with due process requirements under the Public Procurement Act. Participants received practical sessions on procurement implementation, bid examination and evaluation, as well as complaint procedures and administrative review.

The sessions were facilitated by procurement experts, including Nazir Sani Umar, who spoke on procurement implementation processes; Aminu Zakari, who delivered lectures on bid examination and valuation for works, goods and services; and Chinedu David Njoku, who addressed complaint procedures and administrative review.

According to the Council, the participants gained practical knowledge in procurement planning, bid evaluation, transparency, accountability, and compliance with procurement regulations.

The Acting Registrar urged staff to apply the knowledge acquired to strengthen procurement practices within the Council and contribute more effectively to the achievement of its organisational objectives.

Participants, in turn, expressed appreciation to the management for organising the training, describing it as timely, impactful and beneficial to their professional development.

The programme forms part of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria's broader strategy to strengthen institutional capacity, promote best practices in public procurement, and improve overall organisational performance.
