The Federal Government has announced that it attracted over US$24.1 billion in capital importation and generated more than US$6.1 billion in non-oil exports as part of efforts to achieve its ambitious $1 trillion economy target under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The achievements were unveiled on Monday at the opening of the technical session of the 17th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment (NCITI) in Enugu, where policymakers and industry stakeholders gathered to review progress and chart strategies for Nigeria's industrial and investment growth.
Representing the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, said the council's 2026 theme, "Enhancing Competitiveness in Industry, Trade and Investment for Inclusive Growth and Global Market Integration," underscores the government's commitment to industrialisation, job creation, export expansion and attracting investment.
He highlighted ongoing reforms, including the operationalisation of the National Single Window, digital public infrastructure, trade facilitation initiatives and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing them as critical to improving Nigeria's global competitiveness.
Providing an update on the ministry's performance, the Director of Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Iya Gamawa, disclosed that the ministry had also supported more than 115,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and was advancing plans for a ₦350 billion MSME Development Fund to accelerate enterprise growth.
Gamawa further revealed that over 40,000 exporters have been onboarded onto the Nigerian Export Promotion Council's digital export registration platform, while expanded Special Economic Zones, improved access to finance and strengthened regulatory systems are enhancing the country's business environment.
She noted that 2026 marks the first full year of implementing the Nigeria Industrial Policy (2025–2035), which prioritises industrialisation, strategic value chains and digital transformation to stimulate sustainable economic growth.
The council is expected to adopt key resolutions at the end of its deliberations to guide Nigeria's industry, trade and investment agenda over the next year.
