The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has inaugurated members of the Office of the Deputy Director-General (Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation) of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, with a mandate to document and publicise federal infrastructure projects across the country.

Umahi, who is the Deputy Director-General in charge of Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation of the campaign council, inaugurated the team on Thursday in Abuja, charging members to work collaboratively to showcase infrastructure investments and development initiatives of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He said the team’s responsibility would extend beyond the Federal Ministry of Works to cover infrastructure projects being executed by other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) across the six geopolitical zones.

According to him, the initiative is designed to ensure comprehensive documentation and effective communication of the federal government’s infrastructure investments and their impact on Nigerians.

Umahi urged the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement for the six geopolitical zones, appointed as zonal coordinators, alongside other members of the office and its secretary, to identify, compile and publicise relevant projects in their respective areas.

He stressed that the exercise must capture projects undertaken by the Ministry of Works as well as infrastructure initiatives being implemented by other federal agencies.

The minister said the broader coverage would provide a comprehensive picture of infrastructure development under the Renewed Hope administration and make information on government projects more accessible to the public.

He explained that while the Ministry of Works and the presidential aides would continue their existing publicity activities, the newly inaugurated office would establish a wider coordination framework for gathering and disseminating information on infrastructure projects at zonal, national and sub-national levels.

Umahi emphasised the importance of effective communication, noting that accurate documentation and public sensitisation were essential to presenting infrastructure developments and their benefits to Nigerians.

He also highlighted the role of infrastructure in driving economic growth, connecting communities and creating opportunities across different sectors of the economy.

“Infrastructure investment stimulates economic activities, connects communities, creates opportunities and supports the growth of other sectors of the economy,” he said.

On road construction, the minister highlighted the federal government’s adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology, describing it as an approach that reduces dependence on imported bitumen and encourages the use of local resources and expertise.

He said the technology would support local economic activities, reduce foreign exchange demand associated with imported road construction materials and promote durable infrastructure delivery.

Umahi charged members of the office to demonstrate diligence, professionalism and commitment to their assignments, stressing that coordinated engagement was necessary to ensure accurate information gathering and effective dissemination.

He described the inauguration as an important step towards strengthening infrastructure-related communication, mobilisation and public sensitisation within the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council.

The minister called on members to work with a shared sense of purpose and cooperation in carrying out their responsibilities.
