...Says Great Ogboru of APC Was Presented In Error As The Party's Governorship Candidate in 2019.
The proposed Delta State Cultural Festival as announced by the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, will sustain and enhance the bond of friendship, peace and unity in the three senatorial districts, comprising twenty five local government areas in the state.
Executive Assistant (Communications) to Gov Okowa, Dr Fred Oghenesivbe, while speaking as a guest on a popular radio programme in Lagos, said the cultural festival will not only promote the culture and tradition of the various ethnic nationalities in the state; but shall boost tourism and earn substantial income for the hospitality and entertainment industry.
He further asserted that the proposed event is in line with the "Stronger Delta" (2019-2023) vision of the Okowa administration, anchored on socioeconomic growth and greater prosperity for the good people of Delta State, adding that the roles of culture and tradition in peace building and unity among Deltans across ethnic divide cannot be overemphasised.
Oghenesivbe, a Fellow of the Civilian Institute of Democratic Administration (FCIDA); noted that the Anioma Annual Cultural Festival which prompted the greater idea of the proposed state cultural festival, has to a large extent grew the state tourism in terms of the large number of sons and daughters of Anioma Nation, local and international tourists participating and attending the event, adding that Gov Okowa deserves commendation for coming up with the idea of a greater and larger event aimed at showcasing the culture and tradition of the various ethnic nationalities in the state.
On the results of the just concluded governorship election in the state, Okowa's EA Communication said Chief Great Ogboru of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was presented in error as the party's governorship candidate in 2019, pointing out that his candidacy has been nullified by Justice Toyin Adegoke of the Federal High Court in Asaba.
"As it is today, Ogboru lack locus standi to approach the Election Tribunal to challenge the victory of my boss, the Governor of Delta State, Senator Okowa, until that judgment is set aside by the Court above.
"And It appears that all attempt for Ogboru to legitimise his candidacy failed woefully, as per the Court of Appeal judgment rejecting his prayers. Coming to the Tribunal is laughable, inconsequential and medicine after death.
"It is the law that illegality cannot beget illegality on the ground that the Jones Erue faction of Delta APC which conducted the primaries that produced Ognoru as governorship candidate has been disbanded by a Court of competent jurisdiction, declared non existent; and that all decisions, activities, actions and inactions of the Erue's faction are illegal, null and void, ab-initio.
"The legal implication of Justice Adegoke's ruling is to the effect that Ogboru's candidacy is void from day-one, and therefore not known to law, which is why he lack locus standi at the Election Tribunal.
"Gov Okowa's victory did not come as a surprise because he worked so hard to impress the good people of Delta State. He is a prudent manager of resources and did the needful to block leakages, went on several inspection of all key projects to ensure that none of the projects under this administration were abandoned.
"The governor's vision for a new Delta, prompted him to set up the YAGEP and STEP programmes which at the last count have empowered over 25,000 youths in the state, under the job and wealth creation strategies encapsulated in the SMART agenda.
"Sports infrastructural and youths development took centre state as can be seen from the timely completion of the multi-billion Naira Stephen Keshi International Stadium as well as the huge success recorded by the state in sports competition, hosting of international athletics and soccer events, and still counting.
"The health sector was revolutionise and given the desired attention by introducing free wealth care programmes for children and infants; with social health insurance programme implemented at various hospitals and health centres across the state.
"This administration made giant strides in the education sector as can be seen from the rehabilitation and equipping of six abandoned Technical Colleges, renovation of schools, provision of classrooms furniture and teacher staff rooms; and several other achievements too numerous to mention.
"Therefore, it is safe to assert that the landslide reelection victory of Gov Okowa was earned on merit because Deltans were the beneficiaries of the enviable success of his first tenure and they are entitled to gain more in the second tenure, going forward," Oghenesivbe added.
