Rejig SON, Delta CDHR Chairman, Edariese Urges Buhari, Says Fake Products Flood Nigerian Markets.
A. P. Edariese |
"Nigeria as a country has gone into the habit of allowing fake products to go into the markets especially when there is the "Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON in place." Edariese.
The Delta State Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Right, CDHR, Comrade (Elder) A.P. Edariese today called on the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government to rejig the Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON and allow people with good senses of humor to be at the helm of affairs with a view to ensure that whatever is produced and brought to the Nigerian markets, is durable.
Comrade Edariese, in his 75th year message to Nigeria made the call during a chat with Our Correspondent.
He said Nigeria as a country, has gone into the habit of allowing fake products to go into the markets especially when there is the "Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON in place.
"If you buy a roofing sheet now and you roof your house, ordinary breeze will tear off the zinc from your hand.
"Nigeria Government has not thought anything about that. You buy rods from our iron and steel industries, the rod does not stay. You can even use hand to break a rod.
"At the end, you say a four storey building collapsed in Lagos. 20 storey building collapsed in Kano. The Government has never investigated the product, both the cement, iron rod and steel rope they used in buding the house.
"They only probe the engineer who goes to site and build the house. They only probe the owner of the house whereas those who are making the fake products we are now using to build our houses are left off the hook.
"Government never even thought about that Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON has never even thought about how to allow standard materials to be in our markets."
While noting that Nigeria is getting poorer by the day, Comrade Edariese said; "The materials we are buying to build our houses are getting weaker and weaker thereby increasing our poverty levels.
"The man that builds a house today, by the next three years, breeze has finished the roof and he becomes a homeless person and the government is not providing any accommodation for anybody. We are hopeless."
Comrade Edariese also lambasted the Delta State Goverment for introducing different task forces who harrass citizens in the State.
"The State Government begin to take the liberty of introducing one task force or the other. Everyday, there are task forces harraasing people on the road. Criminals are now even checking vehicle papers."
While querying the functions of the Police and the Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, Comrade Edariese said, "All these should stop Nigeria must move forward."
