SUBSIDY REMOVAL: Revive Delta Mass Transit, Rights activist, Agberen Urges Gov. Oborevwori

A Human Rights Activist, Comrade (Amb). Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen today urged Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to revive the Delta State Mass Transit initiated by Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan, former Governor of the State as the removal of fuel subsidy continues to bite harder on citizens and non-citizens of the State.

The Governor, "His Excellency, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration should take advantage of the current hardship to revive the mass transit project because of its roles and the impact transportation has on the people."

He said the removal of fuel subsidy has greatly affected the economy of the country including that of those living on daily income and it is biting harder on the people.

Comrade Agberen said the Rt. Hon. Oborevwori People's Democratic Party, PDP Delta led State Government should think outside the box on how to manage her resources/revenues generated in the mist judicious manner, for the welfare of the people and reduce their sufferings especially in terms of transportation.

Comrade Agberen noted that Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan subsidised the Delta State Mass Transit by 50% under his administration and completely reduced the cost of transportation for the people of the State whose lives he also said, were affected negatively in the various communities.

However, he pointed out that, "The Okowa’s administration for reasons best known, did not continue the Urban Mass Transit project and in the eyes of the people, the vehicles were seen dumped in different areas, forgetting that governance is a continuous project."

According to Comrade Agberen, "Majority of the buses were air-conditioned with Marco polo buses inclusive."
