UZOKA-ANITE INAUGURATES NAIDP - 2023 IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE

The Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan Committee was on Thursday, March 28, 2024 inaugurated, with the goal of making Nigeria a leading force in automotive design, development, and production, rather than just a consumer. 

Inaugurating the Committee, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite while speaking during the event, which was held at the Bank of Industry Conference Hall in Abuja, stated that the NAIDP has the potential to be a revolutionary success story, establishing Nigeria as a vital participant in the global automotive sector.          

Dr. Doris added that the national automotive industry plan, which was established and adopted in 2023, provides comprehensive measures for transforming the nation's automotive sector into a dominating force through employment creation and technological innovation. 

"It also envisions a future in which Nigeria not only assembles automobiles but also develops a local sector capable of altering our economy and increasing the country's global competitiveness while promoting equitable growth." She said.

"By harnessing the creativity and expertise of all stakeholders, we can overcome challenges and plan a course towards sustainable development and prosperity." 

According to the Minister, in a statement signed by Ozokwelu Nonye, on behalf of the Director, Press and Public Relations Department of the Ministry, Adebayo Thomas, "the committee's terms of responsibility include periodic monitoring and evaluation of progress."

"In addition, the committee will be responsible for identifying implementation issues and presenting solutions to them." The statement read.

Earlier, Amb. Nura Abba Rimi, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, stated that the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) was more than just a plan; it was a strategic call to action to develop the industrial sector, create jobs, improve technological innovation, and provide a significant boost to the nation's economy.  

He said that the committee's mission is critical, with a set of deliverables to ensure the effective and efficient execution of the country's automotive framework, which aims to boost local manufacturing, attract investment, and increase industry competitiveness. 

Mr Joseph Osanipin, Director General of NADDC, stated that the agency will not disappoint Nigerians by supplying cost-effective and efficient automobiles that can compete with other global products.
