Amb. Adamu Emerges Chairperson of the WTO Trade Policy Review Body for the 2024/2025

His extensive experience in world trade matters and trade negotiations spans 28 years. Notably, he was also the Campaign Coordinator for Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala during her bid for the position of WTO Director General."

 

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the World trade Organization, WTO, Ambassador (Dr) Adamu Mohammed Abdulhamid is currently, the Chairperson of the WTO Trade Policy Review Body for the 2022025 period.

Adebayo Thomas, Director Information and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment announced this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.   

He took over today, 24th April2024 at the WTO, Geneva, Switzerland.

The statement from the FMITI disclosed that, “Prior to this role, Dr. Abdulhamid served as the Acting Head/Charge d’ Affaires of Nigeria’s Trade Office to the WTO in Geneva, Switzerland. His extensive experience in world trade matters and trade negotiations spans 28 years. Notably, he was also the Campaign Coordinator for Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala during her bid for the position of WTO Director General.

“Additionally, under the leadership of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the WTO has elected Dr. Adamu Mohammed Abdulhamid as the Chairman of the Trade Facilitation Committee from 2022-2023. This appointment reflects Nigeria’s commitment to advancing its trade relations on the global stage.

“As the new Chairperson of the WTO Trade Policy Review Body, Dr. Abdulhamid will play a crucial role in overseeing the review of trade policies and practices of WTO member countries. His leadership will contribute to shaping international trade policies and promoting fair and transparent trade practices worldwide,” the statement read.

The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment heartily congratulates Dr. Adamu Mohammed Abdulhamid on this significant appointment.
