An attempted robbery at the Ogbomosho Transmission Substation has been foiled by vigilant security personnel, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026, involved a group of armed men who reportedly gained unauthorised access to the facility by scaling the perimeter fence near the entrance gate under the cover of darkness.
According to preliminary reports, the intruders advanced towards the gatehouse in a bid to attack and incapacitate the vigilante guards on duty. However, the security team responded swiftly, firing warning shots that forced the attackers to retreat and flee through the same route they had used to enter the premises.
In their hasty escape, the suspects abandoned several tools and personal belongings near the perimeter fence. A subsequent inspection at daybreak revealed traces of blood and footprints leading away from the scene, suggesting that at least one of the assailants may have sustained injuries during the failed operation.
Further search of the area led to the recovery of a bag containing additional implements believed to have been intended for use in the attack.
TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, stated that the incident has been reported to relevant security agencies, with investigations already underway to apprehend the perpetrators and forestall any recurrence.
She noted that no casualties were recorded, as all personnel on duty remained unharmed during the encounter.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure, the company said it has also scheduled a formal report of the incident to the Oba’s Palace on May 11, as part of its engagement with local authorities.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria assured the public of its continued vigilance in safeguarding power installations across the country.
