Bello Mohammed Goronyo Esq, Nigeria's Minister of State for Works, on Thursday in Kaduna, inaugurated the National and State Executive members of the Bello Muhammad Goronyo (BMG) Associates for Asiwaju/Shettima 2027, with a charge to intensify grassroots engagement across the North-West.

Goronyo also donated eight Toyota vehicles to the organisation, with one allocated to each of the seven North-West states and another to the national executive, to facilitate mobilisation, coordination and engagement with stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The minister spoke during the inauguration and reception of the newly constituted executives at Syde Resort, Raba Road, Kaduna.

The BMG Associates is a support organisation established to promote grassroots engagement and coordinate political activities across the seven North-West states.

Goronyo, while addressing the gathering, commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his administration’s focus on infrastructure development, saying the projects were aimed at improving connectivity, trade and economic opportunities.

He listed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Calabar-Abuja/Trans-Saharan corridor, Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe corridor, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano and Zaria-Gusau-Sokoto corridors among major projects of the administration.

The minister also cited the Kaduna-Kano rail project, Kano City Rail Service and the student loan scheme as other initiatives of the Federal Government.

On the 2027 elections, Goronyo called for unity, peaceful coexistence and responsible political engagement.

He argued that, in the interest of continuity and stability, Tinubu should be allowed to complete his constitutional tenure and seek a second term, adding that the North had previously produced the President during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Goronyo also urged the newly inaugurated executives to operate with discipline, accountability and dedication while remaining responsive to the concerns of citizens.

He said the inauguration marked another step in expanding the organisation’s structure and strengthening its engagement with communities across the North-West.

The Secretary-General and Director of Strategy and Communication of BMG Associates, Engr. Harisu H. M. Jibrila, said the organisation was conceived by people who worked with Goronyo during Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign.

Jibrila said their experience during the campaign exposed them to Goronyo’s leadership qualities, commitment and organisational capacity, prompting them to establish a platform through which stakeholders and communities could be coordinated across the North-West.

Also speaking, an Islamic scholar and member of the Kaduna State Special Hajj Committee, Sheikh Haliru Maraya, described Goronyo as reliable, sincere and dependable.

Maraya, who spoke from his experience of working with the minister, stressed the importance of good character, trust and responsible leadership.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Rabi Salisu, called for greater engagement with women and youths, while stressing the need to connect government policies on security, economic reforms, infrastructure and empowerment with communities.

A Regional Youth Leader, Abdullahi Abubakar Yola, urged youths to reject violence and avoid being used to cause conflict or division.

He called for greater opportunities in education, skills acquisition, employment and youth empowerment, as well as constructive participation in community and political activities.

The Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group, Dr Umar Tanko Yakasai, urged members of BMG Associates to promote unity, respect and effective grassroots organisation.

A member of the House of Representatives, Nasiru Shehu Bodinga, also called for sustained coordination among the national, state, local government and ward structures of the organisation.

The Federal Commissioner representing Kaduna State on the National Population Commission, Hajiya Sa’adatu Dogon Bauchi, recalled her participation in the 2023 presidential campaign and pledged support for continued engagement ahead of 2027.

Other stakeholders, including Dr A. A. Mai Agogo and Barrister Nasiru Regachikun, urged the executives to remain disciplined, trustworthy and committed to peaceful engagement.

Goronyo also paid tribute to former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, whom he described as a father, leader and mentor, acknowledging his contributions to political leadership and public service.

The event was attended by political leaders, government officials, community leaders, women and youth representatives and other stakeholders from across the North-West.
