CHEMICAL EMISSION: Kaduna Residents Under Threat

A section of the city metropolis of Kaduna State is currently under threat of environmental chemical pollution.

A chemical dump site which went up in flames penultimate weekend has resulted in the Kaduna state  Environmental Protection Authority (KEPA) in issuing a warning to residents of the areas affected.

According to KEPA, the warning became necessary to alert residents to the dangerous chemicals which have been emitting from the fire incident and the pollution it has caused to the environment.

The General Manager of KEPA, Mr. Yusuf Rigasa, drew the attention of the general public to the threat in the environment on Wednesday in Kaduna.

“There is fire incident at a chemical dump location at No. 9 Rafi Road by the bridge of a river within the metropolis", Rigasa noted.

Following the fire incident at the dump site, dangerous chemicals emissions have been emitted into the atmosphere and could be injurious to human health, he said.

According to the KEPA boss, the affected areas were Barnawa, Kakuri, Tudun Wada and Kigo Road.

“We strongly advise inhabitants of the locations where the air is polluted to always wear chemical nose masks or evacuate completely from the areas".

KEPA officers were working with other emergency agencies in the state to put out the fire, Alhaji Rigasa stated.
